The relevance of Townsend’s law for turbulence intensity modelling

Here is a long overdue update on the topic of TI modelling. I’ve been working on the topic for the past couple of years, focusing on trying to characterise the decay of the turbulent fluxes with elevation. Previous posts on this blog have shown that the so-called “constant stress” layer does not exists, and that this approximation is only beneficial for modelling the mean wind speed using the MOST.

My best guess to date is explained in the following presentation, and described in more details in Appendix C in https://c2wind.com/f/content/23072-04-034—kriegers-flak-ii—wind-assessment.pdf. It uses Townsend’s Attached Eddies Hypothesis.
